John Russell joined the Sedona Learning Solutions team in 2006, and made an immediate impact as he began designing educational materials and job aids for clinical staff. He excels at absorbing critical details in discussions and strategy sessions, and using them to create truly thoughtful and intentional designs. Our team often jokes about John working his "magic"—you can just tell when he's added his personal touch to a piece!
John is a passionate and patient graphic artist who began his career in 1985 at Stephens Publishing, Inc.—while the company was still in Waco. He helped design and develop trade magazines such as Occupational Health & Safety, RDH, Dentist, Dental Assisting and Modern DentaLab.
He was recruited in 1990 by SmartHealth, Inc. (formerly Semantadontics), a company focused on dental office products including appointment recall cards, office stationery for dentists. The company grew to include such markets as Chiropractic, Eye Health, Medical as well as Dental. He designed greeting cards, appointment cards, stationery, and holiday and Thanksgiving cards with market-specific themes.
John earned his associate degree in Applied Arts, with a focus on Commercial Art and Advertising, from Texas State Technical Institute in 1982.
Outside of the office—and sometimes in the office—John enjoys classical music, from ancient to modern. He loves drawing, watercolor, photography, and desert flora and fauna including honeybees and hummingbirds!
